Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon), also known by other names such as scutch grass, wiregrass, devil’s grass, is a fast-growing type of perennial grass growing in tropical and subtropical areas. The high tolerance to drought and heavy grazing make Bermuda grass ideal for pastures.
Although Cynodon dactylon is widely known as Bermuda grass, it's not native to Bermuda even though it has become invasive species in that region. It is believed Bermuda grass has originated around the Indian Ocean basin i.e., in an area between East Africa and India. From there it was introduced to other tropical and subtropical regions.

The blades of Bermuda grass aren’t that tall as they can reach 2-15 cm (0.79-5.91 inches) in height. The erect stems are usually between 1 and 30 cm (0.39-11.81 inches) tall. A deep root system allows Bermuda grass to survive in hot areas and drought periods.

Bermuda grass has been a part of rituals in Hinduism since the Vedic times, and it is also used for medicinal purposes in Ayurveda. Besides medicinal purposes and aesthetics, Bermuda grass is also popular in sports fields because it grows fast.

Since it’s rich in fiber, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and protein, Bermuda grass is associated with various health benefits.* For example, it may help control blood sugar and decrease fatigue.* Consumption of Bermuda grass could boost the immune system and may help treat dental health problems such as bad breath and bleeding gums.* The fast-growing grass could be helpful for people with digestive problems such as constipation.* Other potential benefits include weight management, blood purification, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects, eye infection management, relieving menstrual problems, and polycystic ovary syndrome management.*
